On January 24, 1963, Vionne Taylor signed a paternity complaint declaring Edward Shields to be the father of her unborn child.
A warrant was issued by a deputy clerk of the county court of Milwaukee county and Shields was arrested on February 1, 1965.
He appeared with counsel in Milwaukee county court, Judge Thaddeus J. Pruss presiding, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty
to the charge. A preliminary examination was set for April 8th. Shields appeared on that date, and after the complainant testified,
the court found probable cause that he was the father and bound him over for trial. The case was called for trial in Branch No. 10, county court of Milwaukee county, County Judge William R. Moser presiding,
on June 29th, but was subsequently adjourned until September 8th. The plaintiff's case was presented on that date before Shields'
request for an adjournment until September 17th was granted. The matter was later continued until November 8th, when the court
heard and granted Shields' oral motion for dismissal on the basis of the White Case. 1
